BCIT

Organization: British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT)

Position: Student

Location: Burnaby, BC

The root of my media beginnings were as a Broadcast and Online Journalism student at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. Throughout my 2-year diploma I was able to learn the foundations of TV, digital, and radio storytelling from some of the most experienced minds in the industry. I also got the opportunity to receive hands-on training on all three mediums.

On the TV side, I got the chance to work as an on-air reporter, anchor, and producer behind the scenes. As part of the digital team, I was able to work as a digital content coordinator, digital reporter, and digital documentary producer. In my radio rotations, I was able to be an on-air host, assignment producer, reporter, and podcast producer.

I also had the opportunity to create a 15-minute documentary titled “For the Love of Wrestling.” This documented the struggle that professional wrestlers usually have to undertake in order to pursue their passion of professional wrestling.

I owe a lot of my current understanding of the media and communication industries to my experience at BCIT. The intensity and rigour of the program helped shape my current work ethic to where it is today and I couldn’t be more grateful to have attended such a prestigious broadcasting school.
